Day 5: Krabi

The next day we arrived at Krabi, Thailand (after a really tiring 7-hour wait at the Bangkok airport for the flight to Krabi).

Five things struck me immediately: The extreme heat (it was really hot, especially compared to Beijing), the humidity, the clear lack of extreme pollution, the left-hand-sided traffic, and that the traffic behaviour was much nicer.

Another thing which I noticed was that I didn't see such an extreme poverty nor such a high contrast between rich and poor as in Beijing. While there certainly were cheap-looking houses, most of them had at least one car in front of them, telling that their owners had at least a decent income. (The same thing happened later at Bangkok, where there was a quite clear lack of poor/rich contrast as in Beijing.)

Our hotel was the Phra Nang Inn. A quite nice place.

We ate in a local restaurant, and the portion size was almost ridiculously small. In fact, in almost every restaurant it was the same.

Another two things which struck me when walking on the small beach street there was the amount of tailors and CD stores (of dubious origin) there. In a distance of about 300 meters there were at least 20 tailor shops! And the tailors themselves kept guard outside their shops and were very eager to lure you inside in order to sell you a suit.

There was a stunningly beautiful sunset that evening.

There were all kinds of shops, but unlike in Beijing, it was actually nice to walk on the streets and just look at the merchandise without the shop keepers harassing you all the time.

There were also tons of these little critters there.
